Ceramic Coating Value: Durability, Stain Protection, Value

Tuesday, March 8th, 2022

In part one of this two-part blog series, we looked at some of the primary benefits that come with applying a ceramic coating to your vehicle. Ceramic is one of a few forms of paint protection that may be used depending on your needs, involving a liquid polymer and nano ceramic materials that are meant to provide protection from a few different possible threats.

At Pro Tint, we happily offer a whole suite of paint protection services to our clients throughout Utah, and ceramic coatings are among the options our clients have to choose from. Let’s go over a few of the other major reasons why many people look to ceramic coatings to keep their vehicles looking and performing good as new.

Long-Lasting

One of the top benefits of ceramic coatings is their longevity. A well-applied ceramic coating can last for years, protecting your vehicle’s paint job from the everyday wear and tear that comes with driving. This means you’ll spend less time and money on maintaining your car’s appearance, and it’ll look great for longer.

This is in contrast to some other coatings, which may only last about six months in optimal conditions. If you’re looking for a long-term solution to keeping your car looking great, ceramic coatings are a wise investment.

Chemical Stain Protection

Vehicles may come into contact with a few different chemicals over their lifetime, and not all of them are good for the paint job. In particular, acid rain and bird droppings can cause some serious damage if left untreated. A ceramic coating forms a barrier between your car’s paint and these potentially harmful substances, protecting it from becoming stained or faded.

This is another major benefit that sets ceramic coatings apart from other types of protection. While other coatings may offer some level of chemical stain protection, it’s typically not as comprehensive as what you’ll find with a ceramic coating.

Improving Vehicle Value

For those who may be thinking about selling their car down the road, ceramic coatings can actually help to increase its resale value. Because a coating provides such long-lasting protection, it can be seen as an investment in the vehicle. This may not be a primary concern for everyone, but it’s something to keep in mind if you’re looking to get the most value out of your car when you eventually sell it.

There are a few other benefits of ceramic coatings that we haven’t covered here, but these are some of the major reasons why people choose this type of protection for their vehicles. If you’re interested in learning more about ceramic coatings or any of our other paint protection services, be sure to contact our team at Pro Tint today — and we’re also happy to answer questions about any of our other services, from window tint to several other forms of paint protection.

Ceramic Coating Value: UV Protection, Easy Cleaning, Cost Efficiency

Tuesday, February 8th, 2022

There are a few products out there that provide incredible protection and aesthetic improvements to vehicles, and the ceramic coating is at or near the top of any such list. For those looking to keep their car sparkly and shiny at all times, plus easy to clean and protected from certain specific damage risks, this form of protection is as good as it gets on today’s market.

At Pro Tint, we’re proud to offer several different paint protection and related products, including ceramic coatings that are applied using liquid polymer nano ceramic materials and protect your vehicle for years. What are some of the key areas of value offered by these products? Here are several to keep in mind.

Protects from Oxidation and Sun Damage

Each time you drive your car, it’s being exposed to all sorts of environmental elements, including the sun’s powerful UV rays. Over time, this exposure can lead to oxidation on your car’s paint job and vinyl trim.

When you have a smooth surface coating applied by Pro Tint technicians, however, you are providing a protective barrier on your vehicle that is resistant to these elements. Even better, you can maintain this protection with regular maintenance from our technicians on an annual basis.

Easier Cleaning

Ceramic coatings are also hydrophobic, meaning they naturally repel water and moisture. This makes it far easier to get any dirt or dust from your paint job, thus ensuring that the vehicle stays looking shiny and new for a longer period of time.

This also makes the vehicle exponentially easier to clean whenever you use your favorite car soap solution and a bucket of water. Without the coating, you may find that dirt and dust sticks to the vehicle while washing, which means more time spent trying to clean it before it looks its best.

Cost Efficiency

Compared to other alternatives, such as regularly waxing the vehicle, ceramic coatings offer a significant return for your investment – both in terms of time and money – because they last for years rather than months. It’s important to note that the benefits don’t end after installation, either. You can continue to receive regular maintenance from Pro Tint technicians who will enhance the protective properties, further prolonging the life of the coating.

Broad Aesthetics

Protection is a major benefit of ceramic coatings, but many are also drawn to them for simple aesthetic reasons. These coatings apply a glossy finish that further enhances the already-gorgeous appearance of your car, particularly when applied to metallic paint jobs.

As you can see, there are many benefits to consider when it comes to ceramic coating your vehicle. If you’re interested in learning more about this product and how its technological properties can help your vehicle and it’s value, or if you want to know about any of our window tint or other paint protection products, speak to the staff at Pro Tint today.

Vehicle Risks Posed by the Sun’s UV Rays

Tuesday, September 14th, 2021

There are a few common threats to the appearance and integrity of your vehicle, and one of these you should be well aware of is UV rays from the sun. Sunlight that hits the outside of your car can be as high as 195 degrees Fahrenheit, or as high as 145 on the interior, and these high temperatures can pose several risks you should be aware of — but there are also simple solutions to avoid these.

At Pro Tint Utah, we’re happy to provide these simple solutions in the form of our window tinting, paint protection and other products that keep vehicles protected from not only the sun, but also several other potential threats or risks that may be present. What are the ways the sun may be damaging your vehicle, and how do our products help? Here’s a primer.

Interior Fading

When you’re parked in the sun, the interior of your vehicle is exposed to UV rays that can damage not only the aesthetics of your vehicle, but also its finishes. Leather and vinyl surfaces are especially vulnerable to fading and discoloration from exposure to sunlight, which is why it’s critical you take steps like adding window tinting or paint protection to mitigate this.

You can also use window shades and seat covers to assist you here, but window tint is the most efficient and when it comes to the UV rays themselves, nothing beats real window film. We have several different varieties of this, including Ceramic Films that are used on high end luxury vehicles, and other Tint Film options — all featuring varying levels of darkness in order for you to choose what’s best for your needs.

Paint Damage

Aside from fading and discoloration of the interior, paint damage is another common side effect of sun exposure. Again, high temperatures from direct sunlight can warp or temper paints that are not properly protected — and if you don’t get sufficient coverage with clear bra or other products, more costly repairs may be required down the road.

Baked-On Dirt

And if there’s significant dirt on your vehicle while the sun is beating down on it, you risk the intense heat acting like an oven — and all that dirt will bake onto your car, becoming much harder to remove. Abrasive cleaners may have a tough time removing this kind of dirt, so it’s important to take steps against baked-on dirt as well.

Solutions Available

Luckily, as we noted above, we have the solution for any and all of these problems. Our window tinting solutions stop UV rays from entering your vehicle at such hot temperatures, maintaining the quality of seats and other materials; paint protection products installed by our team will stop the sun from baking dirt onto your vehicle, plus will prevent any paint damage or other concerns.

Value of Paint Protection: Durability, Cost Efficiency

Monday, May 10th, 2021

In part one of this two-part blog series, we went over some of the primary issues that you’re protecting your vehicle against by installing paint protection film, or PFF. These and related products, such as clear bras and ceramic coatings, are ideal for protecting your car from several potential risks, from day-to-day areas to those you may experience in special situations.

At Pro Tint Utah, we’re happy to offer a variety of paint protection film installations for any of our clients. We’re also here to work with you in terms of basic questions like whether PFF will be a worthwhile product installation for your vehicle, the kinds of risks your car frequently faces and several related areas. What are some of the other reasons our clients commonly choose to install PFF, and how will we help you determine if this is the right move for you? Here are some basics.

General Durability

Another great form of value you receive from paint protection film is simply how long it lasts, especially if you take basic care of it. Most PFF is known to continue protecting your vehicle for several years and as long as a decade with proper maintenance, and as we noted in part one, many of these products even self-heal themselves for minor forms of damage.

This means that for the better part of a decade, you aren’t dealing with chips, cracks, scratches or other surface and paint damage. Simple peace-of-mind is a major factor for many vehicle owners, and PFF offers it in some pretty robust ways.

Accounting for the Unknown

While we’ve gone over a half-dozen ways PFF helps protect your vehicle here, we’ve only touched on the tip of the iceberg in terms of potential risks to your car’s paint and surface. Especially for those who drive in new places regularly, but even for those who don’t, you never know what’s around the corner – having strong paint protection in case of any kind of unique threat is enormously beneficial, especially if you value paint quality as a primary care factor for your vehicle. There are even some threats or risks you may not have thought of that PFF will protect you from.

Determining PFF Cost Efficiency

There are a couple factors to use to determine whether installing PFF is the right move for you:

  • Value of appearance: The fist is a very personal variable – how much do you value paint and car appearance? Those who consider it a top priority should always install PFF, while others may be in between.
  • Prevention vs repairs: In most cases, for high-value vehicles, protection is much more affordable than repairs for the same ki8nds of issues – if your vehicle is even somewhat new, PFF is a far more affordable cost than repairing scratches or other damage it prevents.
  • Highway driving frequency: If you drive more often on the highway, you’ll be more exposed to paint damage risks and may consider PFF more strongly than someone who doesn’t drive on highways often.

Value of Paint Protection: Chip and Scratch Protection, Self-Healing

Monday, April 12th, 2021

There are several decisions you might be faced with when it comes to protecting your vehicle, and one is whether to use paint protection. There are many car owners for whom quality paint protection film (PPF) and related products like clear bras and ceramic coatings will be enormously beneficial and easily worth their cost of installation, but also some others who will need to consider whether this theme is worth the cost they’ll pay.

At Pro Tint Utah, we’re here to help. We offer several varieties of paint protection in addition to our window tint and other services, and we’re also happy to assist clients who are deliberating on a paint protection installation and trying to determine if it’s the right move for them. We’ll inform you on everything from our basic costs to the long-term expectations you receive from any of our products, plus will listen to your needs and explain which of our solutions is best for them. This two-part blog series will go over some basics on PPF and its beneficial characteristics, plus help you determine whether it’s ideal for your needs.

PPF Basics

Using PPF specifically as our example, this is an invisible film that creates a glossy, cover-all coat on your vehicle. It blocks various kinds of damage that might take place, with areas like mirrors, door handles and others serving as some of those that often require the most protection. However, said protection can be applied virtually anywhere you want it, including on bumpers, fenders, rocker panels or basically any other surface of your vehicle.

Paint protection is valuable not only for aesthetics, but also practical purposes. Not only will damage look bad, it often impacts the actual driving or related quality factors of the vehicle – but paint protection stops it from happening.

Our next several sections will go over some common issues paint protection helps block; if you experience any of these regularly, the chances of PPF being worth it for you go up.

Rock Chip Issues

If you regularly do long drives on highways with heavy truck traffic, regularly drive off-road or even if you’ve simply had rock chip issues in the past you want to avoid, paint protection is hugely valuable. It’s one of the single best forms of protection against rock chip threats of varying sizes.

Self-Healing Capabilities

Many PPF products have the ability to self-heal, or regrow based on chemical makeup. If damage takes place to the film, it’s often able to remedy this without any maintenance whatsoever. It also naturally resists many levels of pressure.

Resisting Scratches

Another major benefit of paint protection is blocking scratches, which are a common concern for some vehicle owners. Whether you commonly park in a narrow parking lot where scratches happen more often, have kids or pets who risk scratches, or are in any other situation where paint scratching is common, considering paint protection is a valuable pursuit.

Paint Protection Film Basics and Variables, Part 2

Tuesday, November 10th, 2020

In part one of this two-part blog series, we went over some of the basics on paint protection film (PFF) for vehicles. A broad category that covers a few different areas, paint projection film is highly valuable for protecting several elements of a vehicle, from its paint coat and surface to tint and others.

At Pro Tint Utah, we offer a variety of paint protection film solutions to our clients, including products like ceramic coatings, Clear Bra and more. In today’s part two of our series, we’ll go over some additional areas to be aware of when it comes to paint protection film and its benefits, from how to maintain it for optimal longevity to why we strongly recommend you leave any PFF installation to our trained professionals.

PPF Maintenance and Longevity Themes

Like other elements of a vehicle, some basic care and maintenance will be required for any paint protection film you have installed on your car or truck. These areas include:

  • Frequent washing: PFF protects the car, but this is not the same as keeping it clean. Wash the vehicle just as frequently as you would have otherwise, using only high-quality materials and avoiding abrasives or chemicals. Do not use a power washer, which might damage the PFF. We do not recommend using automated car washes, and we would advise against washing in direct sunlight. Finally, if your PFF was just recently installed, you should give it at least seven days to cure before washing.
  • Removal: If you notice any oil stains, bird droppings or other stains on the vehicle, remove them right away so they don’t damage the PFF coating.
  • Wiping: If wiping the surface, be sure it’s hydrated – wiping dry PFF often leads to damage.
  • Wax: Waxing the vehicle around once a month will not only make it look great, but will make cleaning easier for both it and PFF.

Value of Professional Installation

In some cases among handy individuals, there may be a temptation to attempt a PFF installation on your own. Just because a YouTube video makes it look easy, however, does not mean this is reality. There are several variables that are specific to professional installers like ours, from correcting current paint imperfections to installation equipment you simply won’t have on-hand.

Our pros have experience with several related areas. Installation involves applying film on a perfectly even basis, which is tough for many who haven’t done it before. It also requires a squeegee being used to push out bubbles – this may seem simple, but it’s tougher than it looks without training. We strongly recommend you count on our pros for this installation, which is far more affordable than some of the issues often created by amateur attempts here.

Paint Protection Film Basics and Variables, Part 1

Tuesday, October 13th, 2020

Vehicle aesthetics and exterior qualities are extremely important to many owners for both personal and long-term value reasons, and paint protection methods are a major resource available to those who place big value on this area. A vital way to keep your car in mint condition, paint protection – known more directly as paint protection film in many circles – keeps paint and other exterior areas looking pristine for years.

At Pro Tint Utah, we’re proud to offer high-quality paint protection film installation to any client in need, from Clear Bra products to several other paint protection varieties. What exactly does this area encompass, and what are some of the important variables (cost, longevity, maintenance) you should be keeping in mind when considering paint protection film? This two-part blog will go over several variables to keep in mind.

Paint Protection Film Basics and Terms

Generally speaking, paint protection is a relatively broad area. It can include a wide variety of products and terms, including ceramic coating and Clear Bra products but also including standard wax and others.

At Pro Tint Utah, we’re happy to primarily offer ceramic coatings and advanced Clear Bra products that provide excellent protection. Our ceramic coatings, for instance, involve liquid polymer nano ceramics that are applied by hand, creating extremely strong protection that not only block against physical damage, but also UV rays and oxidation. And of course, our products make your vehicle look fantastic and make it much easier to clean.

Similar Products

As we noted above, “paint protection” is a broad term that may include a few other products besides those we offer. Some of the primary products here are various forms of car wax, including carnauba wax – while this wax can provide a decent shell for some vehicles, it does not offer the same overall level of protection.

Down similar lines are paint sealant products, which often include wax plus other synthetic enhancements. Again, while these provide decent protection for a certain length of time, they are nowhere near as robust as true paint protection film and will require significant maintenance and re-application to keep them viable. Over time, such variables often lead to heavy cost burdens as well.

Cost Variables

What will paint protection film cost, and is it worth it? There are a few factors that will dictate the cost of paint protection film for your vehicle:

  • Condition: If your car already has several cracks or other damage points, these need to be corrected before film is applied, which will impact cost.
  • Smoothness vs. curves: Smoother vehicles are much easier to apply film to – those with odd shapes or curves make it harder, and installation may be more expensive.
  • Coverage area: Do you want to cover the entire vehicle, or just vulnerable paint areas? The larger surface area covered, the more expensive installation will be.

Luckily, even higher-cost paint protection film installations tend to come with great ROI by allowing you to avoid numerous costly issues down the line.

The Damage UV Rays Cause Inside and Outside Vehicles, Part 2

Tuesday, June 9th, 2020

In part one of this two-part blog series, we went over some of the damage UV rays can cause to both the interior and exterior of your vehicle. UV rays can create damage that’s harmful to both safety areas and aesthetics, including some that significantly lower your car’s value.

At Pro Tint Utah, we’re proud to provide numerous vehicle protection methods that limit the impact of UV rays and many other risks. We offer window tinting, paint protection, vehicle wraps and several other services to keep your vehicle looking and running optimally. In today’s part two of our series, we’ll discuss a few additional impacts of UV rays on vehicles to be aware of.

Weather Stripping Issues

In virtually every single vehicle on the road today, there is rubber weather stripping present around every door to keep the interior comfortable. This rubber creates a layer of protection against elements like moisture, dust, debris and even cold or warm air entering the vehicle space, meaning drivers and passengers stay comfortable and safe.

With significant exposure to UV rays, however, weather stripping may begin to experience what’s known as sun rot. Over enough time, it will become less useful and eventually even completely useless. If you apply window tint and protect the stripping with silicone, however, this will not be a concern.

Electrical Component Damage

Another high-risk area when it comes to UV rays is a broad one: Numerous electrical components within the vehicle. We’re talking radios, navigation systems, electrical connectors and many others.

When temperatures rise inside the car on a hot day, these exposed components may expand significantly under the heat. They also might crack or even melt away in some cases, or leave the actual electrical wires exposed as their coverings melt off. This makes it far easier for electrical systems within the vehicle to malfunction, leading to expensive repairs on your end – but once again, proper window tinting will limit the temperature rise in your car even on the hottest day.

Other Components

A few other vehicle components that can be impacted by UV rays include:

  • Fluids: Enough heat may cause evaporation of some fluids within the engine, which can lead to overheating or other breakdowns.
  • Antifreeze: One specific such fluid is antifreeze – you should have your levels and strength tested.
  • Belts and hoses: In some cases, extreme heat from the sun can lead to breaking or detachment of belts and hoses within the vehicle’s engine.

If you’re concerned UV rays are beginning to damage certain components in your car, or even if you’re just looking for an upgrade to your vehicle’s aesthetic and theft prevention, speak to our team at Pro Tint Utah about window tint and many of our other vehicle protection services today.

The Damage UV Rays Cause Inside and Outside Vehicles, Part 1

Tuesday, May 12th, 2020

Many vehicle owners are aware that prolonged exposure to the sun may damage a car’s paint, but fewer are aware of the numerous other impacts UV rays may have on a vehicle. There are several such potential impacts, both outside and inside a given car, and in some cases they are significant.

At Pro Tint Utah, we’re happy to offer several vehicle protection methods to keep your car safe from UV rays, from window tinting to paint protection film, wraps and numerous others. In this two-part blog series, we’ll go over several other ways UV rays may damage your vehicle during prolonged exposure, plus how many of our various products protect you from these risks.

Safety Risks

This isn’t the first area many car owners think about, but it’s often the most important when it comes to driver and passenger safety. High temperatures inside the car, generally caused by UV rays, can damage the airbags, for starters – they may be rendered inoperable in high enough temperatures, a major safety hazard.

In addition, consistent exposure to high temperatures and UV rays has been known to impact tire pressure. If you are not regularly checking your pressure levels, you might be driving unsafely without even knowing it based on over-exposure of UV rays.

Fading Dashboard

Between that same heat that builds up over time due and the actual UV radiation entering the space, dashboards are often at risk here. This combination can damage many dashboard materials – and these are often extremely expensive fixes due to the rarity of many of their components.

In many cases, the windshield only increases this exposure through reflection. Over a period of time, dashboards may fade and lose their shine, plus begin to crack or split in certain areas. Window tint, however, minimizes the dashboard’s exposure to UV rays – even if there are high levels of heat still present in the car, the combination needed to damage the dash will not be present.

Upholstery Problems

Another potential interior issue with UV rays is the risk of deteriorating upholstery. Leather, for example, is known to dry out and stiffen with enough UV exposure – even in cases where this leather is treated to resist sun damage, the upholstery itself will still be damaged by UV radiation with enough exposure.

In any situation where you’ve previously spilled liquid or food on the upholstery, the combination of these and UV rays could create even worse issues. They often cause permanent damage if they are baked into the material by UV rays. This is why it’s important for those with this sort of upholstery in their cars to strongly consider window tint that will block these UV rays from entering.
